Freshworks to Enter S&P SmallCap 600 on October 8
Freshworks will replace BioLife Solutions in the S&P SmallCap 600, effective before trading opens Oct. 8, following an acquisition of BioLife.
Freshworks Inc. (FRSH) is set to join the S&P SmallCap 600 index when markets open Thursday, October 8, according to an announcement from S&P Dow Jones Indices. The software company will take the slot vacated by BioLife Solutions Inc. (BLFS), which is being removed from the benchmark as a result of a pending acquisition.
Repligen Corp. (RGEN), currently a constituent of the S&P MidCap 400, is acquiring BioLife Solutions, triggering the index reshuffle. When a company is absorbed through a merger or acquisition, index administrators typically remove it from the relevant benchmark and substitute an eligible replacement to maintain the index's integrity and market-cap representation.

Inclusion in a major S&P index can carry meaningful market implications for the added company. Passive funds and exchange-traded funds that track the S&P SmallCap 600 are generally required to purchase shares of any newly added constituent, a dynamic that can generate additional buying pressure around the effective date.
Freshworks, a customer experience and IT software provider, has been publicly traded on the Nasdaq since its 2021 initial public offering. Its addition to the SmallCap 600 reflects the index committee's determination that the company meets eligibility requirements, which include market capitalization thresholds, liquidity standards, and financial viability criteria.
